V class clicking noise from dash

Hi all, i have a 1999 V class, 2.2.
Since ive owned it it has always had a clicking noise from dash area when ignition turned on?
now battery warning light has come on but still starts and runs good? any ideas?

I don't think the two problems are related.

The clicking noise is all but certainly one of the many motorised linkages which open and close ventilation flaps depending on how the knobs are set. The plastic links can fail and the clicking you hear is one of them flapping around as the motor spins.
Depending on which link has failed the job can vary from fairly simple to dashboard out.

Is the original battery still fitted
