am going to get mine changed.

is it best to just get from MB Dealer or elsewhere?

if elsewhere, ECP are showing Beru at £7.13 each to Denso at £18.90 each, with Bosch at £9.12, and NGK at £12.30.

what is the best plug?

thanks.

Generally speaking NGK Iridium are considered best (though keep in mind that the 'Iridium' bit is not so much related to performance but to longetivity).

From my own experience, original MB plugs are either Bosch or NGK.

Densu is a good manufacturer which some rate next to NGK.

I am assuming Beru would be making good plugs, they make the coil packs for most MB engines so you would assume a descent brand would make good plugs...

Many people don't like Bosch plugs for some reason, not sure why, personally I never had any issues with them.

So I thing in summary all of the above are good, but the consensus would probably be on NGK (MB-branded or otherwise).

carparts4less prices are better (aren't they the same company?):

Beru: £5.75
Denso: £12.60
Bosch: £6.78
NGK: £9.54

Use MBCLUB30 with ECP and they get even cheaper than above.

We always use Bosch. They are about £5 from ECP.

As long as plugs are changed frequently, any will do the job.

Quite often, the modern version of a plug is far superior to it's aged counterpart.

I changed the plugs on my wife's 2011 car last week and the denso plugs in it from new have already been superseded twice!

Most run NGK as listed above, and depending on power you can run a stage colder LFR7AIX, Mercedes Benz E55 AMG Blast w/new NGK-LFR7AIX Spark Plugs Installed - YouTube Ebay USA as its not a UK part number, and even with delivery still a bargain, vs UK Equivalent

I would also recommend changing the Bosch HT Leads, as depending on how long you have had them, they start breaking down and start causing random misfires or smooth running problems, you can get them for around £6+ Vat each from your local motor factors, as they vary in length, you will need a note of the part numbers, if you get stuck let me know, as I may have an old set lying around that I can get the numbers off.

They are a pretty easy DIY if you feel confident working on the 55 engine, if not get someone else to do it.

my DIY ends at cleaning the car ...

car is running beautifully on OEM plugs and leads. It's done 45k miles in about 8 years. I thought I would treat it to some new plugs.

Did you check the price of the mb plugs?

MB price now down to £115, so going MB :)

OEM plugs were NGK, replacement MB plugs also NGK

you can see OEM plug has lasted very well in 45k miles and 8 years .. very impressive. They didn't need changing, but they have been changed. None of the 16 were even remotely difficult to remove. Engine is like new.
