sorry for asking a question about ventilated seats !
But the SL65 is back and fully sorted by MB Guildford
Its warm .... air con on
Oh ive got ventilated seats
Turn them on and wait ...
Wait for what though ??
Either not functioning or my expectations are not what it offers

Help !!!

Hi,
We have them on our ML63.
They are certainly not air conditioned - just ventilated.
If you look on back of our seats you can see a module with the air vents and fans to draw air from back of car through the ventilated seat holes.
We find it works better if rear air conditioning is set to a colder temperature - as the air being drawn through the seats is therefore colder.
47 degrees centigrade doing the school run on Wednesday afternoon - so the ventilated seats were very welcome - in addition to the hard working A/C!
Cheers
Steve

I took mine in because I thought they weren't working, but it's just that on setting 3 (full power) they're about as useful as an elderly asthmatic gnat blowing through a thick woollen jumper.

Presume they are the same as on the CL. Do any of the 3 lights on the seat vent switch come on when you press the button? Vent doesn't work if the battery is low or if you have a ton of consumers switched on. Check on board voltage and if Ok then switch everything off and try the vent switch again on high setting. If nothing happens you have a problem. Don't expect a blast of cold air from the seats though:)

If you have the air-con on re-circulate you can feel the cooled air coming through the seats. On the CL there are some vents under both front seats and I assume that provides the cooled air that permeates rather than blasts through the seat perforations. I did a few journeys last year in really hot weather and you could definitely feel the cool air coming through. With the top down on the SL I must admit I only felt the air and didn't really think it was that cold, but with the hood up and air-con on re-circulate you should notice their benefit.

They are hopeless. And do not the use aircon I thought mind were not working as there was zero effect when seated. I put a sheet of a4 paper on each seat and both flutter from the fans b!owing air through. It's just that your body blocks all the vent holes. Pretty blue lights though.

I concur with the above, ventilated seats rather cooled, the cooled seats on my Jag and Lexus were 10x better, on the SL hardly noticeable so as long as you have blue lights they are probably working..

Yup I've got them too and they are a waste of time.

The BMW ventilated seats are much better.

I miss them from my last ML63 and in the process of retro fitting them in my 166 ML63.
They are small fans to move the air thats all so only blow where the holes are free on the seats.

I always thought they were quite good, wouldn’t have wanted them any colder than what they were!

I had them in my W211 E63 , quite useless. But in my Jag XFR they were amazing . Soooo cold made you want to pee lol

You may well hear them more than you can feel them. They don't blow air out though...they suck it in...I believe.

The Jag's seems to be connected to the aircon, my wife couldn't use them due to wanting to pee but I found them excellent when driving in a suit to meetings. XFR great engine, I had no trouble at all with my Jag but have read elsewhere they are known to be unreliable, I must have been very lucky with 3 years no faults..

Not sure this is correct, for any marque? It would be drawing hot, sweaty air from one's body into the seat. Pretty sure all draw cooled air from the cabin into the seat to displace the warm air.
Definitely not the case in my Lexus. The ventilation function works really well, so much so that if left on max it can induce cramp in my nether regions!

It looks like no car has a dedicated air conditioning feature in the seats, and it looks like they all blow air through the seats. As I mentioned if you have the air-con set to recirculate and set with a bias to the floor you do feel the benefit of the cooler air coming through the seat.

Some Lexus models do have air conditioned seats (not mine ...) where the seat actively cools/heats the the air blown through the seat using a Peltier device

I've just checked on Amazon there are quite a few devices with a Peltier plate for cooling, I guess it could be retro fitted as they seem to cost less than £100.

Thanks everyone ......................I now know that ventilated is not cooling ! But I am still waiting for the impact but will press circulate button ..............
Too many buttons to press
How many seat options can there be ???? Massage !
I need a 5 year old to help

Massage is good. Don't like dynamic bolstering though.

I've discovered my sister in law had put the rear air con up to 23 - might explain why my seats weren't very helpful!
