Having a limited amount of space in my garage, and worried about opening the door into one of the bikes, I thought this looked interesting...

Does anyone have any experience with this company as their kits seem very reasonably priced.

Any experience with such doors? Do they make getting in and out as easy as it looks or are there any draw backs I'm missing? The doors still open 'normally' to about the first stop.

Thanks,

I suppose the only real draw back would be a severe lessening in the value of your car immediately after paying quite a lot to have this done.

Why would it lessen the value? The kits are bolt on and require no modifications to the car so the original hinges can be re-fitted at any time. Even with such doors why would it have any impact on the value?

Surely you're not one of those people that thinks just because something it different the person responsible is a knob? :)

He did not say that - you are assuming. So am I when I say I ASSUME he means most people will not want to touch it becuse the perception is a bit Barry Boy. If you like it you go for it:)

I would think that mod would help sell the car, iI had it done on an mr2, sold really quick.

Let's not get into who's assuming what eh? I was smiling as I wrote it hence the smiley at the end of it. Just like your comment. Why is your perception of such a useful and practical mod a bit barry boy? If I were interested for the pose value then I'd agree with you, but there are many truly practical advantages to this mod...

The doors don't need to open past the first stop and yet there's adequate clearance to swing legs and feet in and out. Much less chance of catching the already low doors on a high kerb. Less inconvenience to others. Easier to enter and exit the vehicle in the tight parking spaces we have nowadays. The list goes on.

Regards,

It was merely my opinion, that if you had ten people view the car and they found it had those doors then fewer would be inclined to buy it. Thus less competition may mean a lower price.

No need to be so precious about it.

:)

If the kits are merely bolted on, then why was the wing removed in the video?

Would it not be a whole lot easier to just leave a bit of foam padding leaning up against your bike at the point where you normally open your drivers door?

In my garage I have an old cot mattress permanently in place where I open my door.

Looking at the video the doors dont go very high making them look anything like being easy to get in and out of the car without banging your head.

...and imho they do look very barry. The only cars I've seen these type of doors on are all very "Max Power".

Because the wing has to be removed to gain access to the hinge bolts. I have assumed (without looking) that like most cars nowadays, the wings are also bolt on?

I like 'em! :thumb: Now where is my Rage Against The Machine Album... I'd forgot they sounded so good.

not my cup of tea, but if you like why not. If it were my car id put some padding on the wall though

Look how far the doors have to open before they can go up. There really isn't any benefit in fitting these to avoid knocking your bike over in the garage as they still have to open in a normal plane before they work. They won't do what you want them to do IMO :)

They open to the equivalent of the first stop on the standard doors... which is ok room wise in my garage. The advantage these would offer is that they then make it much easier to get your legs and feet out I think. However, that's why I was asking if anyone had any real world experience of them.

Regards,

I would hope there is a very well engineered "interlock" system to ensure the door cannot swing shut until it is fully in the horizontal position - otherwise bang goes the window glass.

It may be a "simple" bolt on, but I doubt the door frame is designed to cope with vertical swinging forces without some beefing up behind the hinge mounts.

Hi

The only problem I can say about these doors is that after a while they start to mess up, for example the door will not close properly , I have seen this in loads of cars, but. They do look nice I'm a fan but they will cause problems later in time

I would be very careful on a car like the R230 where alignment of the doors is critical for a good seal with the roof.

Good question Paul. High enough :)
