Car
W203 006 model
I have a 2003 c220cdi with 50000 on the clock.
Car has been seviced at the factory in Stuttgart from new.
On friday evening car would not crank from key. Managed to start car direct off the starter motor solonoid and the car then started on the key the rest of the night.
Saturday the car would not crank from the key all day. Left it alone and got bus
Sunday car started from key but immediately displayed ABS,BAS,ESP.EPC and Brake pad wear( I knew tyhis to be false i had changed the pads and sensor last week.) The car would not come out of park hence no drive. turned car off restarted this time info said ESP not available I could however select drive. Went for a drive round the village came back restarted car now displaying all the above and I can't come out of park can anyone help with this snag? is it likely to be the brake light switch at fault?
I am unable to move car and do not trust my local dealer.
Help please

Welcome to the forum.

As these cars are controlled by an onboard computer you need to be able to interrogate it. That usually means a dealer, but there are many good independents around as well. Look in this section for one near you, or post a request if you can't find one mentioned.

Having said all that, it could be something as simple as the battery on the way out. Before it dies completely it can cause all, and I mean all, sorts of strange problems.

Get the codes read, it won't be the brake light switch causing the non start or locked in Park.

As you have been having battery troubles are you sure that the battery is OK

There should be 12.5 volts when trying to start the car, and 13.8v when the engine is running, when the car is started with a voltage of less than 11.75v these voltage dips can trigger the ESP, etc

Your fault is either EIS or selector related.

As said the brake light switch and lever locking up do not apply to this car.

As there a 6 different 220s could you put up the next 3 numbers 203???

Thanks to all who are trying to help very much apprecie=atedNumber203006, Battery was new 6month ago under recall scheme, Haven\t had any issues with battery at all voltage readings are fine only things in stored codes are Heater Booster and ETC, I have been told to ignore heater booster and that the ETC thing is seat belt locking. These codes were read by the Snap On ODB scanner The codes that are flashing on the dash have not been logged in the ECU faults. . The faults were were cleared but I still can't select drive or even move gear selector manually. I am thinking I could be in for an awful lot of expenditure.

To put things in perspective, it's probably losing thousands of pounds per year in depreciation just sitting on your drive.

I have been through everything for the 006 But cant find a thing regarding the EIS switch, though this is a common fault on most of the range

The codes must be read out, with luck it could be a simple fault on the ESP ECU where the contacts oxidize and only need cleaning.

Sorry I cant offer anything else

True Rory. I have tracked down an Indy who has a very good reputation and I have booked the car in for Wednesday. I have a friend who works for my local main dealer and has advised me under no circumstances at all let my car go near them they are just ripoff merchants in the extreme. I have a daughter in Germany and have always had the car looked after at the factory in Stuttgart at half the cost of UK prices and the car gets done properly and a full valet to boot. Unfortunately I can't get it to Germany for this snag.

Malcolm many thanks for looking anyway, could you enlighten me what the EIS switch is please I am ignorant of this?

EIS = Electronic Ignition Switch it works by doing a high speed data check on all major parts of the car, including the shift lever, when a fault is found it will not turn, some times the shift module will have a problem that can be cleared on a Star tester.

Can you not even get the gear lever moved using the manual override? (i.e., shoving a round bar in the panel posterior to D and releasing the parking brake)?

EDIT: sorry, this might be on earlier models of the auto box. The manual should have a section on releasing it.

Update_- Had the codes read and today these are what appeared I wonder if anyone can shed more light on what is going on?
Codes are:
P2203 Ext Quantity control by ESP Module
P0500 Vehicle speed signal
P0703 Brake signal
P1610 Actuation Holding relay

Thank you
