Hi Guys.

I am getting a slight vibration when slowing to a stop in my S204 om651 engine C250. Its almost as if I can feel the torque converter slowing and vibrating as I approach to a stand still at say a traffic light or T junction.
Doesn't do it all the time, more noticeable when cold.

I have replaced the gearbox mount but it hasn't really made much difference. although it was worn (as in sagging a bit)

Any ideas? car drives spot on otherwise. cheers

A worn propshaft center bearing and/or mount can produce all sorts of odd vibrations. Easy to reach under the car and see if there is excess propshaft movement. Worth a try.

ah thanks i will have a look, car is due for an A service in October so hoping to find the cause before it goes in, thanks for the reply.

Cant seem to see any issues with the prop bearing, any body got any other clues? thanks

If you coast to a halt in neutral - does it still vibrate?

No in neutral is smooth.. so I am guessing it's drive train or engine related and not brakes etc any ideas? Thanks

What about in neutral and using the brakes?

It could still be aft of the gearbox though - but not present without the braking torque of being in gear.

Pretty sure in neutral and braking it's smooth, it's when in drive and coming to a stop, also I find its not doing it all the time, maybe 3 out of 5 stops. Cheers

Engine mounts would be next on m y list

Cheers I was kind of thinking if it might be engine mounts but hoping to get some opinions.its not a cheap job so was kind of hoping it might be something else.lol

From reading this forum, the technique of bonnet open, brakes on (left foot), in gear and applying throttle and observing engine movement seems to provide the diagnosis of failed engine mounts.

I had these symptoms and it was an engine mount on mine. Once replaced the vibration stopped completely and never returned.

Thanks guys
I did the engine mount test as suggested, there is some movement when revving, probably not as much as those on the youtube videos but a reasonable amount.

My car is 2012 and has 106K miles on it, so I would guess its pointing towards the engine mounts being the issue due to age, mileage. The other thing I have noticed is, it does it more when stopping on an incline than if on a flat road, which again suggests to me its the mounts as more of the weight of the engine is push backwards enhancing the vibration feel?

Its due its A service in a month or so. I'm going to get it booked into MB automotive Loughborough who are top guys. Hopefully they can confirm its the mounts and get it sorted.
Another big bill coming.... .. oh well.. :)

@Tonygw Does it make any sort of groaning or creaking when you go from D to R or vice-versa, especially on inclines?

My C 220 groans when going from D to R or vice-versa, and in another thread it was suggested the cause might be worn engine and/or transmission mounts. I also have a subtle vibration, but just assumed this was down to the age of the car and size of the engine. My car's in the garage on the 8th where they're going to try and locate the cause of the groaning, but it's feels more and more likely — especially after reading threads like this one where similar symptoms are discussed — that it's going to be the mounts.

Lets hope its a simple as the mounts, its not a cheap job unfortunately I am thinking around £400 estimated. I may be wrong.

Let me know how it goes. Mines in for an A1 service next month so might be getting the mounts changed then if that's what they diagnose.

Be good to know what they find, good luck

Hi Mic1981, did you get the car diagnosed yesterday? OR what did they find, interested to know, cheers
