Is it possible to watch video on Comand via an iphone?

Not looking for VIM, just interested to see if it is possible.

Nope, video in COMAND can only be done via the TV tuner or a DVD disc.

Or if you have Media Interface, you can add Media Interface Plus (or just use the video AUX) - MI is an option only available on NTG2.5, NTG3.5, NTG4/4.5 based cars

DVD playback doesn't work in NTG2

(And I don't know whether your C class is NTG2/NTG2.5/NTG4 as I don't know the year)

It's a 2011 if that helps?

I've heard it can be done with the Media Interface plus kit, and you'll also need some kind of extra video cable.

Part number seems to be A 212 900 9305 for the MIP, not sure about the cable though, and when I asked a dealer about it he'd never heard of it, so not sure if it was just released in the states or uk as well.

I have bluetooth audio streaming already, not sure if that's the same thing as interface plus?

The car also came with three leads although i've not taken much notice of them as I have only used my phone via bluetooth.

No, from what I can tell the media interface plus kit plugs into the iPod connector (which should be one of those 3 leads in the glove box), you then pair the phone to the MIP unit for streaming, or plug a lead from that unit to your iPhone for video, I'm pretty new to looking at it myself so I wouldn't take what I say as gospel

This is the kit: http://www.comandonline.co.uk/media-interface-plus.html

I'm a little hazy on years etc, does your comand screen fold out, or is it the newer integrated screen? -on mine I can't even stream, I can only plug into the glove box iphone adaptor, which is pretty poor. I've been considering the MIP since I cant stream, if you're streaming ok, you'll have to weigh up if its worth the £300 odd that it will cost

interesting, I cant edit my post again..

Anyway, just an extra bit of info, I called a local dealer about parts, and gave him the above part number, he gave me a price of £225.60, I then asked how long it would take to get it, and he got a little confused, and said actually this part has to be ordered in from germany, and has a different part number there with a slightly different price (£232), but is orderable, and would take about 5 days to get. Kind of tempted.

Thanks for the info.

Mine is the intergrated one. I was looking at that kit earlier and I noticed a couple of points from the description;

"This genuine Mercedes device is for cars with the Media Interface. It adds support for Bluetooth Audio Streaming, iPod Video playback, Pandorra radio for iPhone users and charging via USB to your existing Media Interface. "

The points I have highlighted are features that I have already.

So i'm confused as to whether i need the interface plus as i already have some of the features that it offers?

Hi

The media interface itself supports Video AUX (3.5mm video aux lead), USB and iPhone/iPod with 3 different cables. You can therefore, using the 3.5mm video aux lead, plug in an iPhone for video playback - but you will have no control of the iPhone at all. There is also a genuine Mercedes lead 3.5mm lead that goes to 3x phono for plugging in a DVD player or such like.

The Media Interface Plus is a somewhat compex device that plugs into the Media Interface socket (no cable needed), and then you need an extra iPod Video cable from the Media Interface Plus to the iPod if you want iPod video.

It was created before the NTG4.5 was made (which itself supports some of the functions as kianok says).

The UK dealers are confused by this. Make sure that they quote with VAT, and you order the video lead, and there are lots of different versions for different markets. You want the English version ...

OK so i have a standard iphone to MI cable, a MI to USB and a MI to 3.5mm cable.

Will any of these work for iphone video?

Sorry if i'm being a bit stupid!

From what I know, no, you'll need the media interface plus unit and the video cable, the standard MI to iPod cable plugs into the MIP unit. The whole point is that because some of the features are redundant for you, you have to decide if its worth buying since the only benefit you're going to get is video.

You won't get the same sort of volume but mounting movies to DVD (with free dvd burning software) and loading them in the changer will give loads of material to watch without the hassle

After some arsing about, i think you are correct.

Can't see any other way of getting this to work despite playing about with all 3 leads.

Cheers chaps.

Ok, i may be being a bit thick here but i cant find a 3.5mm jock socket anywhere in my car?

Any ideas?

I have media interface & trying to figure out how to use the video aux with my iPhone.

Where can I get the required cable? & will this only work with the old style 30-pin devices?
