W123 230E 1984 AUTO fast idle

Hi folks, anyone out there that can give me good pointers. I am recommissioning my car. 9300 miles. Had a full new exhaust fitted and noticed out of nowhere the engine was idling at 1500 RPM in neutral. Goes down as soon ad Drive is selected. Any ideas where to start for this fast idling. All advice appreciated. Thanks

Do you have a carb on the engine, or is it injection . Check vacuum hoses for splits or not connected ... Check springs on the throttle linkage Also check the small micro switch in the linkage .

If it’s an ‘E’ it will be injection.

I would suggest to check the ECU is getting voltage (ie OVP functions and fuse has not blown), also check the idle control valve isn’t sticking.

Does the idle speed change much cold/hot?
