Hi Everyone

I am an infrequent user of this site. So apologies in advance. I have 1984 model. During an Mot my silly mechanic decided to tighten my box. He couldnt slacken it off. So my new Mercedes trained mechanic had a go . The allen key slot is so close to the exhaust manifold , we couldn't get the allen key in there.

I have a few options.
1) I have found them on ebay but the numbers are confusing. My Benz dealership have given me a part number MA 1234605901 BUT I CANNOT FIND ONE. I have found one 1234610601
2) To find a reconditioning place near me Solihull Near Birmingham

Any Help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Hi
Back to my steering box. I undid the nut 19mm and turned the 6mm allen key clockwise 1/4 turn did up the nut . No difference, I repeated this again turning the middle allen key another 1/4 turn and again 1/4 turn then it would turn anymore and absolutely no difference at the steering wheel . as stiff as I had started . I checked Steering fluid reservoir that was full. Turned the wheel lock to lock. Doesn't make sense. Something should have happened at the steering wheel!!!! Any ideas anyone Please .

Stiff? I thought (or lazily assumed) you were wanting to adjust slop out of it to make it tighter.
I'm not sure of the direction the Allen key has to be turned to effect change either way but I'd suggest turning it the other way and see what happens. From memory, adjusting mine I over-tightened it and the wheel was 'stiff' to turn - until I moved the Allen key back a touch.
