okay so apologies if I'm late to the party, but does anybody on here have any thoughts about E10, and what does it mean for our classic cars in general, are we all looking at expensive upgrades ?

Don’t be thinking you’re late to the party. I haven’t even heard of E10 yet. What is it ?

it's the new fuel coming to a pump near you in Sept, replaces E5, more Ethanol not good for classics, especially older ones.

E10 bad news for old cars, at present Esso super has no ethanol except, I believe, Devon and Cornwall.
May have to start using a fuel stabiliser for ethanol protection.

I think that for older cars with fuel injection the bulk of the problems can either be resolved by using super unleaded in the short to medium term (supposed not to be more than E5 in future) or get some new fuel lines made and fit those. I've had a stainless braided sleeved line made up in the past for just under £100. Took the old line to a random performance car specialist and picked up the new line the next day.

I read in one of the classic car newspapers that most large forecourts will still stock E5 and that only in the smaller ones might you only find E10. However the roll out will be slow and I don’t think we’ll have to worry until at least early 2022

I am also the new owner of a W123 and it would be great to have a meet up for London and Southeast England owners once everything opens up a bit more.

E10 is fine as long as you use your car on a regular bases. It's not that good if your car sitting for extended periods as he ethanol can break down leaving water that can cause rust and also gum up fuel lines. In any case, it's not a problem provided that you're using your car regularly. It's been used for yonks in the US
