Hard to imagine why anyone thought either of those things were worth doing.

A sensible dealer would whip them off, flog them, and fit something suitable to the likely buyer.
 
Replacing the steering and road wheels wouldn't need any cladding removed.
 
No but when you do remove the clading, you might find a horror story at the rear of them, especially the sill covers

jacking points is a fairly easy repair on those, did mine ,but the rear subframe mounting isnt often writes the car off

This is what killed my last two W124's. I was gutted as they were both sound otherwise. Can the subframe/mounting points be repaired? Is it not doable at all or just that it's a huge job that would cost a fortune?
