I am looking to build and turbo my 1991 260E with the M103.940 Engine. I want to know what HP the stock rods can handle as I want to run a street application with 2.0~2.5 bar, hopefully putting me in the ballpark of 500bhp. If the stock rods aren't strong enough, does anyone know a good aftermarket?

Many TUNED petrol Benz of that era used the bottom end of the diesel equivalent straight 6 so I doubt you would get 500bhp out of the standard bottom end 250-300bhp if you are lucky
The commercial mosselman twin turbo setup kit got a modest 250 bhp= +70bhp on standard rods iirc?

I actually just watched that video today, I was kind of assuming that stock rods wouldn't work but I've found some H-Beam rods made for the m103 which should have no problem taking whatever I throw at them. now my only worry is the crank

The cranks in those are forged from the factory and will laugh at 500hp, the pistons are just as tough. The rods are the weak point but will happily live with 1 bar of boost pressure. Swap your engine to the 3.0 version and you wont need to stress it as hard to reach your goal.

I wouldn't refer to anything off that video either, its just a list of what not to do. The fact that he thinks the airflow meter is the throttle body should show the depth of knowledge there.

yeah at this point i’ve figure everything out on my own and disregarded what little info i could find on youtube

thanks for the tip about the crank. i’ve definitely decided to swap for the 3.0. my power goals have also changed,

i can only find turbos rated to 1.5 within my budget and still not skimp out. so 500 wheel is the goal now.

doing 1000cc injector efi conversion to compensate for fuel

using a maxxecu to control a BMW DCT….can’t wait to see how fun that is to get working.
the documentation already looks like there’s gonna be some long hours in the shop but the results should be worth it

Sounds an interesting setup, the kangeroos manifold and a holset hx35/40 should get you there.

Whats the story with using a DCT gearbox? Something you wanted to do or just cos you can?
