Time to get started on my W124. I have owned it for a couple of years now and it’s spent most of its time under its cover.
Managed to find a set of 17” Aero 1 wheels for it and went to fit them today, that was the plan but the wheel bolts from the 16” alloys are too long. Has anyone had problems with this before. Found some online that are 10mm shorter.
Engine conversion is next but still unsure what V8 to fit, it is either a 117 or 119. Would prefer to keep it on KE injection for simplicity. Ideally a 5.0 from an early SL would be ideal but they are like hens teeth. Also heard that the exhaust manifold is very close to the steering box on this engine.
The 117 requires the front chassis legs to be sectioned has anyone ever done this. At least there was 2 right hand drive Hammers built so it must be possible.
I have found a 560SEL which would make a good donor car. Does anyone know if any of the brakes from the SEL will fit the W124

Thanks for that but I really want to retain the original steering box. I think the 117 is the only way forward as the only 5.0 119 engines I can find are bare and there is no way I am fitting an engine I haven’t heard running. Still hoping to find a 91 sl500 that is either rotten or rear ended.

Finally got my new wheel bolts and got my Aero 1 wheels on.
