the car has hallmarks of a japanese import, square cut rear number plates and window deflectors which the japs love.

Lovely car, black on black, that's what I call a "spec" :D

£9.6k, a bit optimistic, no? I remember that silver 500E Brabus a while ago went for around £6k?

Yup appears to be a Japanese car - square number plates, km/h speedo and side repeaters.

The car's in Denmark, which may explain it's slightly higher price. I believe taxation on cars is more over there

Finally, it has no sunroof. I guess that would be rare here in Europe.
But it appears to be a good example, with low km's and a decent spec.

It would certainly be fun driving it back from Denmark :thumb:

North American versions have the same bootlid designed for square number plates only - you have to actually change the bootlid to accomodate a UK style plate !

cheers

I was in Denmark this time last year. Flicking through a magazine (while unable to go anywhere due snow; sound familiar?) I was staggered by the asking prices for used cars. ISTR ordinary W201s were being advertised at €6000

Very recent import from Japan, too: the service documents show it was serviced in Japan just 2000km ago. Curious...

But the entire ad is in English as if deliberately aimed at Brit buyers.

Only post-facelift, I think. In the pictures of this one it looks like the boot lid has got an insert for the Japanese/North American plate size.

I think it's got left-hand headlights (as you'd expect with it coming from Japan), so that's one less thing to have to change... :)

Also a correction from earlier: :o
I was in Denmark … W201s were being advertised at €6000
Unlikely, of course, that cars in Denmark would be advertised in Euros. I suspect I meant at the equivalent of £6000, which would have been DKK 48000...

Your 124-fu is weak, Sir...

  1. 500E was never available in RHD, because the V8 won't fit around the steering box
  2. The Japanese consider it a status symbol to own prestige European cars in LHD, even when available in RHD
