Probably worth £100,000 as it's not 199 blue black, or 744 silver or 040 black, which are all common by comparison.

As we know, colour makes a huge difference to the value of these cars, blue-black pennies, black..five figures.

Not sure what you mean. we have been reliably informed that rarity of colour makes a huge difference to the value of these cars, so surely a very, very rare colour will make it worth significantly more.

Or does colour not make that much difference?

Colour does make a difference, but that shouldn't be taken literally to mean any colour other than 199 or 744 is worth 5 figures.

040 is special on 500e's due to 3 factors :

1/ rarity - very few numbers in 040 black, even fewer which are black on black, those are top dollar
2/ MB press car for w124 500e release was 040 black
3/ it suits the character of the car : 040 black looks aggressive, colours like Pearl blue, Pearl Green can look soft which is not in keeping with the nature of the car.

That said smoke silver 702 is a super colour and i would hope to one day add one to my collection in this colour !

as to the comment of 040 back being common by comparison - when was the last time a 040 black 500e was for sale on ebay ? This smoke silver is about the 4th such colour 500e for sale in the past 2 years.

The bootlid is not rare - all US and Canada cars also came with that bootlid.

I don`t mean by just that post,more like in general.Don`t get me wrong as it does not bother me,maybe because I know you in person but it might put off others

If posters were a bit more "straight-forward" they wouldn't leave themselves exposed to ridicule and sarcasm.

unfortunately they tend to talk twaddle.

This forum used to be about people helping each other out and having a laugh. Now it appears to have morphed into calling people "plonkers", "idiots" and "muppets" because some think they are superior, combined with drawing a line on the pub loo wall and seeing who can piss highest above the line...
