Hello Guys,

can anybody tell me how i go about adjusting my accelerator cable?

is there a diagram of where it runs from/to?

and what is a bowden cable?

my accelerator feels stiff and i feel should be smoother.

cheers.

Billy
Pretty sure it's obvious when you look at it from under the bonnet - I did mine, and it was simple, but I can't remember exactly how.

A bowden cable - my understanding is that it is a cable within a sheath - just like the throttle cable. Either a single or multipart wire, inside a sort of coil (you'll know what I mean when you see it, covered by a plastic sheath to keep out the elements.

Pretty sure the cables are stiff on those, as they are really set up for RHD - look at the crap path from the accelerator cable, across the bulkhead to the throttle body. Any surprise it feels stiff.

I made mine a little better by some silicone lubtricant where it goes through the bulhead, and comes out to the accelerator cable (don't drop any onto the pedals!), and lubricating where the cable comes out at the throttle.

thank Ted,

what does the bowden actually do?

bowden cable is second cable that runs from your throtle body to the automatic gearbox. it tells the box "when" to shift. if your gear change is fine DON'T touch that cable!

thanks for the advice, i adjusted the cable, turned it anti clockwise and has sorted the loose play on the pedal. It feels better i think.

with regards to the bowden, i would want it so that it kicks down before i hit the kick down switch.

is this recommended or not?

Yes, turn it anticlockwise for quicker change down ie put more tension on it.

aye WBD, i might give this a try but not exactly sure i can see this cable on throttle body..

where abouts should i be looking?

It should connect to the throtle linkage close to the throttle cable. It will be a cable going down under the firewall. There will be a black plastic (on the 320 M104 at least) hex adjuster between the cable end and the throttle linkage. Turn this 1/2 turn at a time to unsrew it from the linkage ie expose more thread.
