W124 Air filter

I have a 1991 300TE (Bosch CIS-E KE JETRONIC) and want to fit a better air filter, K+N or similar. Unfortunately the car isn't listed in most air filter manufacturers fitment lists.

Has anyone managed to get around this problem?

If I cannot find one that will fit straight on, I will have to build up an intake system myself and will need some rubber tubing bends with a 110mm inside diameter, anyone have any ideas?
