my 260e has factory fitted aircon with the ec button. there was 2 things i wanted to know since the gas hasnt been charged for some time.

1. is it worthwhile getting it charged now, im assuming when the weather warms up so will the prices?

2. the system runs on r12 which is now obsolete, is there a replacement gas to use in r12 systems.

before anyone asks the aircon is working but last year in summer it wasnt as ice cold as it used to be and also a mechanic said to me that the 2 fans on the front of the radiator should be working at all times if the a/c is on. mine work intermittently.

There is a guy local to me that does air con on cars. he says he has the equipment and knowledge to change R12 for the new stuff. Think its 135R or something like that. His charges are £60 - 80 depending on the work needed.

thats what im trying to avoid. the new system uses r134 gas which is eco friendly but it involves changing the oil, joints and condenser if youre going to do a proper job.

Fans only run when needed, normaly when at stand still for awhile, in hot weather or going slow as in traffic jam and the like
