Hi

i have been looking at getting a wooden gear lever for my 1994 W124, however how do i get the old lever off the car? does it unscrew?

thanks

derek

I should reiterate - its quite a tricky little job, so much more complex than the newer cars where you just twist it off!

As Jay says its a fiddly job but can be done.

Buy the W124 gear stick stalk converter which allows you to clip on the later style gear knobs. Buy a half wood/leather one from a W140 as it will match your wood and leather colour. Plenty available on ebay.

EDIT: too slow typing, just seen above post!

Ha Ha Ha !!!

Puerile , i know but very funny .... :D

' The pictures doesn't even do this knob justice. Only when you hold it in your hand and see with your own eyes ..... '

hmmm I had one of those gearknobs from that seller - the quality was terrible.

It was almost orange :(

but we've covered that one before

With wooden gear knobs, steering wheels and anything else wood in a car you really do get what you pay for..

It has arrived (took a while). unfortunatly the quality isnt very good at all - as andy_k says, it doesnt match my wood at all - its almost orange and has a couple of knocks/pitting to the laquer on it and also the logo printed on the top isnt very good either.

It will probably end up back on eBay.... :(

i think i will keep my leather black knob as with fitting a wood/leather steering wheel i am thinking maybe it will be too much wood.

hummmm, just read through that original thread (and resisted the urge to add to it as i dont think it needs bringing back to life).

The knob i got sounds like same quiality as Andys.... however as a eBay seller myself i will probably just sell it on, rather than return it.

The victor guy does sound like he would refund if i returned it and thats all i would be looking for but as i said i will probably just sell it on.

so it's not just me that was being fussy then :)

Ask for a refund - that's always good for a giggle

I would send it back for a refund, if you sell it then the chap that buys it from you will have the same problem.

Keep a look out for a W140 half wood half cream leather gearknob. Should suit the car alot better.
