heres a strange one for ya.

had to jump start the car the other day as it had been sitting since before xmas. drove to the petrol station to fill up. kept the engine running whilst filling up as i was a bit nervous of the battery not being topped up yet. the sunroof popped up on its own and now the interior fan wont work....hmmmm....everything else seems ok and i changed all the fuses some time ago as i have heard of electrical issues. the fan was fine and strong before this with no worrying squeals so i dont suspect this.

any suggestions?

thanks, Simon.

For the fan I'd look at the fuse first. It may have just decided not to start because it been's sitting but may change its mind at some point

thanks Nick,

I will, i just found it really strange that the fan was working then the sunroof opened itself and the fan stopped. this made me suspect that something is governing both, a relay maybe?

Ah, I didn't get that from your original post. I don't see a link between the two things.

I do wonder why the roof opened? The roof and windows are all linked to the comfort module and I've seen lots of failure with these in the last 18 months

i'm going to check all the fuses properly first and spray a bit of contact on them.
not sure i know what/ where the comfort module is and can it be easily fixed?

right, i have checked all the fuses, they seem fine. i've google searched this problem and they point to a strip fuse by the suspension turret. i have checked and double checked both areas but cannot see what they a talking about.

any ideas?

They may be referring to a range of resistors that govern fan speed - Have a feeling that's sometimes located on the suspension tower?
correction on later cars its beside the 2 circulation fans under the shroud. It's difficult to get at so you would have to be sure its that! http://www.peachparts.com/Wikka/W124BlowerMotor

thanks, i have a feeling this is only route left to take so i will try it. if the fan itself is gone then it wont be a waisted job either.

I thought that strip fuse was only for the automatic climate control models?

I have a2002 320 with only 36000 miles . sudenly the boot has decided to stop working I can only open it via the special key in the ingnition key help please

Only diagrams I have are US, there is a 30A fuse listed for 'auxilliary fan' but I think thats the big fan for the a/c cooler? Roof is fuse A but no idea where the ventilator gets power from...
I do recall the roof on my 230TE went berserk in France once and started randomly opening, never did get round to that...there is a control unit for it.
Jump-starting 124 wrongly can damage electronic components if not done 'by the book' apparently
