Hi there gang ...

Just a quickie ...

I may have the developings of a noisy diff... :(

Will a diff from a w124 260e fit a w124 230ce (both 4 speed autos) ?

cheers in advance

H

My car's diff has been whining for at least 30,000 miles. Used to be only at 30mph, now does it at 60mph.
If it isn't leaking I wouldn't worry too much .
The actual ratio may well be different for a 260. Lord Walker will know for sure.

So nothing to worry about then ?

Cool ....

It is either a wheel bearing or the beginnings of a noisy diff, sort of 'whoo whoo whoo' slowly when travelling slowly, and getting faster as the speed increases , it's not obtrusive , but i know its there .....

Colin looked at it for me the other day , and said he couldn't be sure which it was and didn't want to start changing things unless he was sure because he knows how tight a budget i am on ( read : what a pauper i am  )

Said to let it get a bit worse and then he can be sure ....

As long as the wheels aren't about to fall off and kill us, i'm not too worried ...

Howard that is a wheel bearing that is on the way out. I have the same symptoms on the Coupe. Its a pig of a job th change them too. The whole rear suspension has to be removed as the hub needs to come out. You are talking of about a 5 hour job there. :o

Hmmmm

Not what i wanted to hear .....

When are you down this way next Ian ?

Could i ply you with tea and cakes ? ;)

Tea and Cakes he says :bannana::bannana: Now stop tempting me

Call me tomorrow by phone and I may be able to help you. nudge nudge wink wink
