Hi.

I'm looking at converting my W124 200 petrol to the late spec 250D 20V engine and auto box. It seems the engine number for this unit is OM605.911. Problem is they seem trickey enough to find.

Is the 250D engine fitted to the early W202 and W210 cars the same? They seem to have engine codes OM605.910 ERE and OM605.912 ERE respectively. Are the W202 and W210 fitted with ECUs or is the setup the same as the W124?

I dont want to fit a 300D engine to my W124 due to the cost of the road tax here in Ireland...

Cheers

I think the OM605 fitted to the w124 was the only version of the engine with a mechanical pump.

I’m not sure about the non-turbo version but the turbo engines in the w202/w210 have an electronic part on the pump and are ecu controlled. The automatic gearboxes also have an ecu box in these models.

You could fit an om602 pump onto the om605 to bypass the electronics.

Basically for economy purposes. Ive invested a lot of money into the car in terms of bodywork etc. I would have thought this should be a relatively straightforward conversion...

The best option might be to buy an old rusty 250d and swap everything over?

A W202 C200 diesel has a 2.0 4 cylinder version of the engine which would keep it in the same tax brand.

Unfortunately it's not a relatively straightforward conversion and it won't save enough in fuel costs to justify the work involved

If W124 diesels did 50-60 mpg It'd be a different matter. They do 33-35 mpg so why go to all that trouble?
