W124 Engine

Old shape grill, indicators etc which suggests it is a 200TE, rather than an E200 Estate.

Nice car though, welcome and well done.

Then it should have the old 8v engine then ...

The picture shows the 16v

This is what the VIN decoder says

Not doubting what it says ...

It's one of the crossovers ...

Old shape , old badging , new engine .

These models were around for a very limited period, late K and early L reg, as Howard metioned pre-facelift with facelift features including revised engines, electric drivers side mirror where previously it was manual with electric offside mirror and drivers airbag. Personally like the prefacelift model in comparison to the facelift model, they look more chunky and old skool.

I had one just like that (not white though) for 4 years. M111 16-valve in pre-facelift body. Much better paint than my current later car. Excellent vehicle, not quick, but not under powered - it will cruise all day fully loaded at autobahn speeds no problem. Expect 26 - 32 mpg in general use.
The engine is covered in the Haynes C-class W202 manual, everything else in the Haynes W124 manual.

Yes all them items you mentioned are on mine. So what haynes do I need? I have an E Class one upto 1993, but that doesnt cover my engine, so was told to buy the C class one from 1993 onwards, is this correct or do I need the eclass from 1993 onwards??

Im looking at doing an LPG conversionwith a mechanic friend of mine, but would like to undertake the work with him watching and advising so therefore need as much knowledge on the engine as I can.

Well im gettin around 100 miles for every £20 on town driving. But think its running kinda rich, any advice before I crack open the Haynes?

There is no E class w124 or W210 Haynes manual post 1993. :( You have to buy the C class W202 manual to get the engine details as has been said.:)

edit:- the Brooklands book on the w124 does cover all years. Its a translation of a German manual. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Mercedes-Ow...ooks&qid=1215189623&sr=8-3&tag=amazon0e9db-21
neither is totally comprehensive.

there is also this relatively recent publication but covers engines only- not sure ?? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Mercedes-Be...UTF8&qid=1215189623&sr=8-3&tag=amazon0e9db-21

That's approx 28mpg. Not too bad.
