Right everyone - thinking caps on ........

Does anyone know if the facelifted cars (w124) bonnet will fit a pre facelift w124 and if so, is it just a question of bolt it on and away you go, or are the lights and everything else different ?

Basically can i get a bonnet from a facelift car and will it just go straight on mine without too much buggering about ......

cheers

H

I *think* it's a bonnet/bumper/headlamps/wings job! You can keep the corner indicators though... :)

I could very well be wrong, but IIRC if you want it to all sit correctly and not look like it was done by a Barry bodyshop you need to replace all those parts.

Of course being a pre-facelift W124 your front wings are probably showing signs of rust near the corner indicators where it meets the bumper, right? ;) Why spend good money buying pre-facelift parts when you could invest in the facelift ones and turn a repair into a mod? :D

Nope... You can get away with just the bonnet and grill. I think the saloon/estate/coupe bonnets are the same but best check with Ricky first.

The light lenses are a different shape but you can live with the pre facelift versions & buy the lenses from ECP (the backs are the same) at some point in the future. If you change the lights, I understand you need to also change the little strip below the lights where the washer arm goes.

If you wanted to go the whole hog and colour code the bumper inserts, the facelift front insert is the same size but the whole rear bumper and insert needs to change (unless you just get the black insert sprayed like I did).

Interested in doing this myself so let us know how you get on finding the bonnet and grill (especially prices).

here's the link, the guy is just down the road from us both so you could probably save on carriage.
That looks like a pre-facelift bonnet though, check out where the grill bolts in!

Yeah, I think you're right... if it was on a '95 registered car, it must have been sitting around in a showroom for a fair while.

Mind you, when did the 220's come out?

As far i know the 220's were all facelift models it went from 230 ce to 220e and from 300ce to 320e.

The large hole in the centre of the front of the bonnet i presume is where the facelift emblem comes through the actual paintwork rather than being mounted on top of the chrome of the grille.

Its hard to tell, i'll ask him for a piccy of the front view and get back to you !

I will try to work out tonight which parts are definitely different W124 coupé pre/facelift. I really need to know of a model that was definitely not available before the facelift and one that was only facelift. E320 was only facelift right? How about an engine that was definitely pre-facelift?

(EDIT: a VIN or two would be very handy...)

I will also find out about the bonnets re: coupe/saloon/estate.
