I have a really clean 1993 200TE that has 1 iffy wing, are second hand wings a better bet than pattern? are second hand still available?

An original factory second hand wing is a better bet than a pattern part but must be rust free. Be wary of folks passing off "used pattern "parts as "used original" since these cars have been around along time.

A rust free original second hand MB wing for a W124, removed from a car that was probably taken off the road due to excessive corrosion, is a rare thing to find...

I gave up after months of trawling.... And bit the bullet and went for new original ones....

You may get lucky, but be prepared for a wait.....

i got a good one from dronsfields £55.ended up fitting a second hand pattern one picked up from ebay as it was the right colour and cheaper than painting the first wing(will get all the paint 'correction' done at some time in future) pattern wing fits well but much less substantial metal(quite flexible!!) N.B. there was e genuine new mb wing on ebay recently went for £90.

Are saloon estate and coupe wings the same on 1993 cars?

As far as i am aware they are all the same fitments Dragster, however, i'd just wait for concrete confirmation from one of the other members.

No difference in saloon/coupe/estate front wings, late diesels have an air intake grille in the offside wing and the E500 wings are very different but you're unlikely to encounter the later

One option that hasn't been mentioned yet is getting the origional repaired... more expensive than a pattern, dunno how much genuine ones cost so can't comment about that and of course it depends on how far gone yours are. The offside wing on my 320te had already been replaced with a pattern part and while it's not glaringly different (for most people) it's not hard to spot- panel gap by the door/A post and (especially) the front corner by the bonnet shut/indicator are wrong.

Nearside on mine is still the orgional and had already started to go when i bought the car (paint blistered a few months into my ownership). Dunno when i'll get round to it but i'm gonna repair* it as it's a fairly simple panel section to reproduce. It's not something i'm likely to get around to anytime soon but i had wondered about producing a proper buck which'd make producing repair panels relatively easy/cheap (i'm a welder/fabricator), dunno if there'd be sufficient demand?

* Unless of course i stumble over a good used one in the right colour

A Hotrodder and a dragster on a Mercedes web site...didnt think id see that. My ones in kind of Burgundy and its so good it needs the wing done as it stands out a mile against the rest of it. I was wondering about repair but its a bit beyond my skills to do it properly. found some German pattern ones for about £50

I would always start with trying to repair your wing, cut out the rust and weld in fresh metal.
I have fitted a lot of aftermarket 124 wings and never had any problems with them, yes they don't fit to start with but with some special tools and tricks of e trade I have never had an unhappy customer with end results of pattern wings.

a question:

would originals have a part no. stamped in the inside anywhere?

Yes

One way of repairing wings is to cut the required bit off a pattern part and weld it into the original. At least then the fit is OK

...except the diesels have vents in the offside.

Hadrians make them..

50-24-230, MERC.124 85-95 FRONT WING RH £44.97
50-24-231, MERC.124 85-95 FRONT WING LH £44.97
50-24-232, MERC.124 85-95 FRONT WING RH TURBO D £63.14

Is this the same for a 1995 S124 E280, as mine needs a little work doing on it - so repair or replace is the question
