W124 hard top

Weismann made their name making aftermarket hartops....

Over the years they have made tops for the E36, E30, Z3 BMW convertibles, Mercedes CLK Cabriolet, & the W124 cabriolet.. there maybe more

Never deemed as good as the OEM varients, but always been a sensible, quality, & cheaper alternative.

The Hardtop in question is an original MB item, very rare which explains the high buy it now price.

I think Weismann are now in the business if making cars!

Im 99.9% sure MB did not offer a hardtop on the C124, so this would have to be an after market item.

MB definantly offered a hardtop, this looks like one to me as it has interior lights on either side of the rear screen, & a switch at the front to use them.... Only MB would go to this length, something weissmann or any other afermarket maker were not known for.

under options you will see the following

roofliner in velours

roofliner in leather

interior lights

mechanism for roof rack system

roof rack system

Hardtop storage system

I'm sorry but I'm with Aka$h on this one. However from experience I have found it better never to say "never " so if you can find a Mercedes part number for the w124 convertible hardtop that would be proof.

Im pretty sure, (but not 100%) that this is not true... they were all after market as i understand...

Surely if it were an M-B option it would be mentioned in the handbook.

You guys have me doubting myself now!...

To be fair, the reason im (was) so sure that MB offered an hardtop option is the fact that, if they did not offer an hardtop option, it would be unlikely that they would throw in the hardtop preparation (Ie: A cabriolet that accepts a Hardtop) for all the aftermarket makers to cash in.... It does not make sense.

If its found that MB have made provisions for a hardtop, one would assume that they planned to make one?

Also over the years, I have on various occassions seen reputable vendors in the Mercedes Enthusiast Magazine, selling low mileage, mint W124 Cabs with quote 'factory hardtop'.

I may be wrong on this, but for now will stick to my guns...

no the hard tops use the mount points for the soft top... there are no extra mounting points / guides for the hard top....

jaymanek is correct in that MB never made hardtops for the w124 cabrio,s at all. they were only ever after market .

You are right, there are no extra mounting points or anything like that, so I stand corrected on this matter.

Just goes to show how sure you can be about something & still wound up being wrong!

Also goes to show what a informative & great forum this is, & why im on it so much!

Thanks to all the guys who contributed on this most usefull thread regarding my all time favourite MB model.

well i have read about these models since i could read... the W123 and W124 are cars i grew up with, when i was a kid, the W124 cab was a dream for me...

i have just been chatting with Dee... Jay / Dee, this thread suggests that no mounting adapters are required for a wiesmann hardtop.. or have i read this all wrong :-/

Check PM, Bossman.... Fitting kit/hardtop preparation required as not supplied by MB originally...
