Sound like you know the answer. Duff ignition switch probably.. I do not believe that they are expensive to replace.

I had an odd "goings on" last week with my 124 Estate. Rapidly sorted by IBW and the boys.
Wipers and washes stopped working. Headlights would not flash but I could move from dip to main beam no worries. Electric windows would only go down on the switch but not up. They would go up with the door open though
So my initial thoughts were. Combo stalk on its way out as I could use the indicators. But little else. Perhaps a relay needed sorting.
IBW's boys changed the comfort relay and all was well once again.

When i gave it in for a service i was told that this was replaced?!! clearly didnt do it properly. Any DIY guides to changing the ignition barrell switch for the w124?
