Car
Various Mercs come and go
Hi,

I have a 320CE which I purchased recently and using the car for the first time in the dark, I've noticed that the car has no interior lights, ie dashboard completely black, centre console...non of the switches are lit up and only the reading lights work on the cabin light, ie the light does not come on when you open the door....only the cabin lights in the door bottoms come.

Any Clues?

Had same problem on one of my cars, couple of things to try, first check all fuses, next on dashboard there are two rehostat knobs, one on left if push in it re-sets trip odmeter, if twiddle / turn clock wise this contols all dash / console light brightness, it could have failed, just mess with it normally fixes it, with mine turned out the live feed to the circuit had a short somewhere so had to be bypassed, saved alot of time trying to track down the short

I hate him  . There I was with oily rag and muddy boots waiting to charge her a small fortune for mending her lights and that disrespectful JPS went and turned them on. Tsk, will have to find something else to rectify :D

disclaimer, this post is in jest

Getting back to my interior light problem....its not the rheostat, I tried that a couple of days ago and the fuses are OK

To recap, in addition to none of the dashboard lights being illuminated, none of the buttons/heater dials are lit up on the centre console.

In addition to that the interior light by the sunroof, will only illuminate in the spot light position and will not light up when the doors open

Any idea's

all these lights are contolled via the rheostat as mine was on the 260e which turned out to be a dead feed, the auto elec charged me 35 and had to by pass the feed, which worked, only drawback was I couldent turn the brightness down (as if u do anyway) i.e rheostat no longer functioned.

To save time and effort may be best just to take to a auto elec.

Electrics not being my strong point but has the feed from the fuse box come adrift. Means lifting the fuse box to have a look I am afraid. But for all not to work smacks of no feed for me.
