I'm after some advice about the leaking power steering pump on my car, 1991 230ce.

Am I better off just to replace the pump, or have a go with a seal kit?

I'm not a mechanic, but don't mind having a go if it's doable by a novice.

I've had a quick look and there seems to be quite a few different seal kits available, but I don't know the part number of the pump fitted to my car.

Is there anyway of finding the part number without having to take the pump off first, I'd rather get the parts before taking the car off the road to do the job.

Autodoc are good for w124 parts , never had a wrong part when I put my details in . Should be fairly easy to change especially with YouTube how to vids .

With the help of this useful site and your VIN number, you should be able to identify the power steering pump and, hopefully, the correct repair kit.

As said above, Autodoc are pretty good at finding the correct part number with the help of your VIN number.
Changing the seals should not be so difficult.
Cleanliness is essential.

Well removing it can be a problem if your not mechanical minded .Remember that when removing the pump that the bolts are not all the same size, i used a camera to picture step by step removel . Check this in the manuaal this is the m103 but will be give you some idea . 20 Cooling System - M103 Make you own mind up after you read how to do it ..I would get the job done by a garage .I recon they would want to fit a rebuilf unit or good second hand.. Please return if i can help you more .

I did this when I changed the water pump , mapped out the bolt locations on some card in clockwise order . Punched a hole with a pencil tip.
This is an example I’ve just made , not the actual one before everyone says they’re the wrong bolts 😂

Now I feel a complete fool, it is not the pump that is leaking at all, all the fluid is around the steering box.

I'm going to get the car up on ramps tomorrow and give it all a clean off to see where exactly it's coming from, I guess it's probably from the hoses.
I'll report back.

But dont forget the engine involved is the M103 but a lot like yours only 2 more pots /
