Another day another program to solve. This time, at anything under 20mph the speedo needle flaps. It's not critical but is annoying. Settles then runs fine at higher speeds. Cable issue?

Cheers all,

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

Cables twitch a low speed when they are at the end of thier lives. Not to hard to replace but you may need a set of MB pullers to do so (there is a thread I think on how to make a set from coathangers)

try putting some grease in the back of the speedo where the cable pushes in it takes up the clearance between the cable it offen works less work and cheaper than fitting a new cable

Not a difficult job but can be a bit fiddly. Would also advise replacing all the warning light bulbs in the instrument binnacle at the same time. Might save having to take it out again in future.

I was told not to lube it as the lube travels up into the odometer and kills it.

It's a 250D/1992 so mechanical speedo probs. I'll add it to my list.

Does anyone know that on 1994 w124 has mechanical or electrical speedo ? I have the same sympthome.... :-(

Mechanical and lubing it is NOT advised.

i have a 1994 and also had a 1995 W124 - both with mechanical speedos.

strangly my 1985 107 SL has an electric one.
