Engine starts just for a second then cuts out....Please HELP!!
Hey guys I just brought my W124 e220 today, drove brilliantly back home and I was very happy!!

Just went to start it again after it sitting there in the drive, i must add it's a little cold!!

The engine started up for a second then shut down again, I then gave it some throttle and it stayed on until I let go of the throttle and it shut back down again?

Any ideas lads?

Many thanks

Could be a number of things, im sure ....

Starting off with the cheapest and simplest, I would get some carb cleaner and spray the throttle body and clean up the butterfly flap thingy....

Cheers mate, just tried to start it and it fired up first time? It's no where near as cold as last night, so does that help in identifying a potential problem?

Cheers

Sounds electrical-- cold mornings tend to bring out alternator or battery or starting motor faults. Best guess your car is suffering low voltage for some reason -- could be alternator brushes-- could be a dodgy over voltage protection relay--- could be a faulty fuel pump relay.

Check all the main earths you can find especially the battery negative cable the engine earth cable and the earths at the top of the nearside suspension tower.
