Well, after a long drive to London yesterday I now have two Garrett T2 turbos, an intercooler and lots of pipes :bannana:

Hughes of Beaconsfield are selling off their remaining stock of twin turbo kits for the W124. They have been sat on their shelves since the late '80s/ early '90s and they just want them sold.

If you want one they are £1000.

An incredible amount of bits are in the kit including an add-on ECU plus fuel injector, new exhaust manifolds, air filter and full stainless steel exhaust.

More info here.

Hughes have a couple of M104 3.2ltr kits and several M103/M104 300-24 kits.

345bhp here I come.:D :D

Look forward to reading about it next weekend Janner..it shouldn't take long to do..;)

Sounds awesome...you're going to be in serious C43 territory!

Cheers for the link too - great reading. Is this pretty much the only performance mod worth doing on a W124 E320 i.e., there's nothing less 'committed', permanent or more simple?

I'm thinking the Torquay get-together in August would be a good time to have it all up 'n' running.
The E36 is booked in for an MOT on Monday and if all is well (ie he doesn't prod the chassis too hard) that will become my daily car while the E320 is in bits. The pistons have to come out to lower the compression.
I'm actually looking forward to it as a project.

...A bit like a C43 but more stylish :D

Nice, can't wait to get my grubby hands on it in Torquay

C43 territory? More like E55! 0-60mph in 5.7s

Can't wait to see the progress, good luck with the installation!

ADY, get your cheque book out, at that price it would be a shame not to finish your motor off!

I know I am serious but Tracy has put her foot down on this one, she said no to me getting the SEC and the Golf GTI as well  but I think she means it this time :( and we have just paid a deposit for a holiday to Egypt... So I don't think there is any way really, also I have only paid Ian a small amount so far...

Me too :bannana:
Im trying my best to find some more info on the conrod modification that is required. It have contacted turbo technics who were not too helpful at first. After several calls Ive made some progress, and I hope by the end of the week Ill have the spec sheet.
Do you plan to run yours with or without CATS?

Ive not sorted through everything yet, but this is what it looks like so far

With a cat, not sure how yet. When I get that far I might try to source a high flow cat from somewhere rather than use the original one.

I had the same problem with Turbo Technics. They told me they didn't modify any con rods when clearly they did. I think very few staff from 15 years ago are still there and those that are can't remember. I plan to ask a couple of local engine builders for advice. As far as I can tell the goal is just lower compression, not increased internal strength.

From your last picture I can see I have the service booklet but I don't have the other paperwork, presumably fitting instructions and parts list? Looks like a call to Hughes then. I hope all the other bits are there. :o

From the Turbo Technics manual for the M103 12-valve engines (p. 7):

ENGINE
Engine compression ratio is lowered by shortening the connecting rods. The connecting rods retain the standard big end shells and therefore crankshaft pin diameter. No other internal engine components are modified. The cylinder head also remains standard including the cylinder head gasket.

Shout if you want any more info. I own the M103 twin turbo referred to above and featured in Mercedes enthusiast last September.

Why does my plastic shield look different?

Im seeing John tomorrow, Ill ask him.
