Saloon and coupe wings are interchangeable, aren't they?

i think coupe wings are bigger arnt they? i'm not 100% on that though.

EDIT - i may be wrong - i think there was a bigger engine'd 124 that had flared wings or something...>?

Are pattern parts any good, or do I have to go OEM?

I've read that pattern parts take more fiddly to fit..

I take it the arches have finally gone..

Yeah. :(

They were bubbling for a bit, but after the car's enforced underground storage over Christmans/New Year, the driver's side has gone through.

And yes, I know my near side wheel is kerbed. You can thank a locally-based 'specialist' for that. And it's nobody on this forum :)

Spot on - don't buy pattern. Some bodyshops fudge-fit them and they look alright....but they are thin as coke can tin and crap up real quick.

Better off getting good original wings from a breaker.

I think you will find coupe saloon and estate ALL use same part number front wings.

If getting second hand, do get later facelift ones as they have the rolled arches from the factory to allow fitting wider wheels without modification.

(and I am not talking about 500 flared wings here - just standard E320).

I've seen the multivalve diesel wings on a coupe so are interchangeable.

 Mine are still showing no rust (touches nearest piece of wood) and I think I have the earlier non water based paint.. I've got a few other rusty bits though.. (door edge chips, blister on boot cill, tiny blister on OS panel). which will hopefully get sorted this year...

How long did you have bubbles?

They were very slight when I bought it, just over 2 years ago, so let's say two and a half years.

its very common as mud gets stuck behind the lip.. also that rubber strip retains water in between it..

oh good, looks like I can defer that repair for a bit ;)

I live in 124 land (S London), and a car without bubbling wings is unusual.

Yes, I think they all share the same wings (though don't pre and post facelift differ?) except one of the diesels that has a grille on the wing - can't remember which model though.

Front wings are identical on w124 coupe, saloon and estate, except diesel has slats on the offside wing.

Only items to differ between pre and post facelift are bonnet, grille, headlamp lenses only, and under headlamp trims....and of course indicator lenses being clear versus orange on pre.

any multivalve 1993 onwards will have the vent.

So I don't need to worry about width of the arches? My car's a Sportline (although I doubt that makes a difference)

All w124 wings are the same width apart from E500 which are rolled out more. AMG cars have spacers fitted to push them out.

500e wings are a totally different design around the arch....enormous protrusion and the shape of the arch is different too...stock w124 is kind of angular, where the arch on the 500e is very circular.

See attached pics, my w124 TE versus my black 500e...

Would that effect not be produced by rolling out. We have a member had a C124 with flared arches which looked remarkably like E500 ones in profile.

I suspect the rolling rounds the shape of the arch.

I realise the genuine 500 ones will be pressed, not rolled.
