W124 Wings

i *think* the side mouldings are different too.. i know they are on the SEC widebody.. but I have also seen aftermarket rolled arches that look identical..

Only items to differ between pre and post facelift are bonnet, grille, headlamp lenses only, and under headlamp trims....and of course indicator lenses being clear versus orange on pre.

But doesn't the pre have a plasic rubbing strip along the middle, whilst the post has a complete plastic lower panel? Surely that must make the wings differ behind the front wheels, no?

Would that effect not be produced by rolling out. We have a member had a C124 with flared arches which looked remarkably like E500 ones in profile.

I suspect the rolling rounds the shape of the arch.

I realise the genuine 500 ones will be pressed, not rolled.

Not sure...given how much the wings protrude out, they must surely have more metal as well to achieve the width at essentially the same height.

Side mouldings are not different on the w126 Widebody - original w126 SEC mouldings are retained. All AMG documentation refers to a nine piece bodykit with the only stipulation to be Euro bumpers. I went through all the detail when i constructed my Widebody. They might loo different in pics, but they are simlpy flexed to meet the lines. Same on the w124 Widebody. AMG never chnaged the lower mouldings.

500e mouldings are different....the bumpers, mouldings, side sils all differ. Only the door mouldings are the same as a stock w124.

No, it's just a couple more holes in the wing for the lower cladding to snap into.

They end up not as deep but don't appear so due to to the front track, the wheel filling the arch and lower ride height.

But the 500e has a far wide track than a stock w124, so i was guessing combination of widening and flaring must require more metal.

Just looking at the bulge on the 500e arch, it just looks too huge for it to be a simlpe roll out.

i could be wrong, i'm not a metal specialist :-)

Hmmm...here's frontals from my silver 500e....just looks to much arch to extract from a stock w124 piece...

Take one off and weight it and then ask aka$h to as well..;)

The 500e is a totally different wing, as talbir says there isnt enough metal there to roll them that far. That having been said AMG did use a "wheel arch widening kit", it was basically 2 nylon washer 10mm thick and 2 longer bolts per side, Ive got them on the coupe.

With regard to pre and post facelift, the wings are the same, the slab goes into the same holes as the strip used to. The only thing to watch out for is that some didnt have indicator holes, I know a local dealer who had one in stock but when he brought it out, no hole for the repeater.

Ive attched a diagram to show the parts used by AMG

Hi - which software version are you using to get these AMG part diagrams? WIS/EPC? Thanks ;-)

It was from a AMG 3 piece wheel fitment booklet

Front wings are identical on w124 coupe, saloon and estate, except diesel has slats on the offside wing.

maybe some are better than others, has anyone tried hadrian panels wings, I've seen some on a 124 multi valve and they looked excellent, i was considering them myself at £60 for the T/D wing and £30 for standard.

For info these are the AMG spacers which are used to pull out standard (non E500) wings slightly.

I'm sure you could make some spacers out of hard plastic with the dimensions shown.
You can roll the lip on the wings using a special tool as described in this thread.
Has anyone on the forum got one of these? If not how about a group buy?

There's no way you can pull out a standard wing to make it an E500 wing.
