W124 Wings

Always a possibility but idealy wanted new ones as the car is heading for a detailed restoration, cheapest I got quoted from Mercedes Nottingham was 197 +vat.

Has anyone got a dealer contact that can do them for less?

They won't get much cheaper than that for genuine panels at an MB dealer.

Pattern part ones are pretty poor - both fitment wise and quality, it's a false economy.

I'd either stump up the £200 for new MB ones or look for some excellent used ones - although I suspect you're after new ones ideally.

I bought a set of near-perfect secondhand MB wings off a late 95/96 124 coupé that I was planning to fit on my old 124 estate, but decided it wasn't worth the bother. I may consider parting with them at some point.

I believe Ian B Walker recommended Hadrian panels for good fitment pattern 124 wings in the past - maybe PM him for advice....?

I fitted a pattern 107 wing to my SL - fitted very easily and was a perfect fit. Quality is also as good as far as i can see, but maybe a bit thinner metal. once undersealed, painted etc you cant tell the difference. i wouldnt discount pattern parts if cost is an issue, but buy wisely from a recommended supplier. My 107 wing came from Beevers auto panels - no idea what the 124 one from them is like but i suspct many come from the same place anyway....

Do they have any rust Will?

How much would you be looking for? The car is waiting on a few bits and bobs at the minute so not in a super rush, although I would like to source the parts sooner rather than later.

They're pretty much perfect AFAIK (that's why I bought them ;)). But they have been in the shed for the last year though doing nothing though :o

I was going to get them painted and swap them over, they only bolt on. But I just couldn't really drum up the enthusiasm as the 300TE is just an old cheapie runaround...

Let me dig them out first and give them a once-over. You'll need to ask a mod/admin to enable PM or briefly post up your email address though.

Ok, I've got that now. You can edit your post to remove the address if you wish :)

That's the correct headline price but they should give a 15% discount if you ask them nicely. Including VAT and rounded down, I paid £385 all in for the pair.

(My C124 refurb thread)

I've bought OEM and pattern wings off eBay recently.

Both pairs are brand new. The difference in construction quality is clear, although whether this means difference in fitting quality I don't yet know. I won the OEM wings at about half retail price; the pattern wings I won at a discount of about 90% off their manufacturer's price.

The pattern wings are Hadrian; I have a suspicion that Hadrian and Beevers are part of the same organization, as I think I saw the former featuring as part of the latter somewhere on the Web. I've seen favourable and unfavourable comments on pattern parts, many saying that they are fine, perhaps with a bit of fettling, and others keeping the OEM faith (which I am normally inclined to do).

I'll weigh both pairs and will let you know whether there is any difference.

I've also bought several used OEM wings, all corroded around the fixing holes to remediable degrees. When the time is right, I'm going to offer them all to the bodyshop to see which they prefer. The surplus ones I will then sell on, and will post them here and in the MB Club before going to eBay.

Wow, that's a better price! I'll try MB Derby and Leicester too, see if I can get some sort of discount from them!!

It was your refurb thread that got me interested in doing this, I will be posting some before pictures up (including the boot that the previous owner flatted down with some very course sandpaper!!!!) fairly soon!!!

I am also interested in late 124 OSF wing.

Azurite being the ideal colour.

So you may have an auction on your hands.

Please provide details here or PM me . Thanks

i also think beevers and hadrian panels may well be one in the same - website layout appears similar - different prices though!....

anyway, the way i see things, these MB wings rust when genuine, so pattern parts cant be any worse!!

i'm happy with the 107 wing and intend to probably buy another at some point in the future for the other side.

the 124 wing is smaller than a 107 wing so i cant see how metal thickness would really make much of a difference......

If yo have a small area of surface rust is it more cost effective in the long run to find rust free wings to have resprayed rather than paying for a repair to the original wing, will the rust come back?
