hi guys

I was wondering whether it is possible to replace w124 320e engine with w210 e55 amg? or is that difficult to do?

I was just entertaining the idea but i am not sure whether it will require a lot of work to do.

Or is it better replacing with a more powerful engine from another car?

thanks

Let us know how you get on.

hi

i got the engine and wiring and a donor car : )

Alot of work but like Pascalpals said Anything is possible !

That'd be very interesting to see. Would it be easier with a 560 w126 engine?

Acid I hope you're well, it's been a while.

The easiest V8 to fit in a 124 is a M119, only because it was fitted by the factory beginning with the 400E. Subframe change but minimum engine bay mods.

The M117 was used by AMG with 5.0L to 6.0L variants in SOHC and DOHC versions.
Not an easy fit as it required engine bay sheet metal mods.

For the cost and effort involved in trying to install a NA 5.4L V8, you might as well boost the M103 or M104 and the end result will be a better balanced build with equal or greater RWP.

The main problem beyond mechanical fit is the installation of higher tech electronic engine/transmission control in a less sophisticated chassis/system.

i am confused now which is the best option acid@MSL you have got me thinking.
ideally would like a bit more power from my w124 saloon. I wouldn't mind a v8 if i am honest ideally want and engine swap that wont be too complicated and wont compromise too much on the chassis etc of w124.

A V8 swap requires deep pockets and a great deal of patience even if you find someone who has already made a similar swap.
Make sure they have done it with a RHD W124, as most V8 transplants even by AMG were LHD (Only 2 RHD AMG M117 builds were RHD )

What year, what engine and what is the mileage and condition of the W124 you currently own ?

A M117 is possible but not worthwhile.

One of the co-owners of stealth systems has a rhd 300TE which he fitted with a M117 500 V8.
I think the company has now gone bust but he told me that the swap wasn't that bad.

He was the same guy that put a M117 500 into a sprinter recovery truck for my dad.

Stick with a M104, more power, more easily.

I have a w124 saloon 320e with 78k. This V8 switch seems quite complex, then again I would love some more power out of my 124.

Has anyone on here attempted this who has done a conversion on their w124?

My brother is currently building up his w124 with a toyota 1JZ single turbo engine, the build thread is in the project section,

However if you really did want to go down the route of a later V8 you can add a standalone management system to run it, Custom headers etc.. but will end up being very expensive

If it's 'just' more power you want, would a C36 engine fit the bill? It's based on the engine you already have and should give around 280 bhp.

Or there's always the turbo kits that are made for the M104

turbo kits that sounds interesting. turbo techincs perhaps?

ideally I am after something that's not going to be expensive to do but will give me around 300bhp.

well will justify the amg kit on the car haha

Turbo Technics say they no longer offer conversion kits, so Mosselman would seem to be your best bet. Like stwat says, it won't be cheap.

A C36 engine and associated bits from a donor car would be the best value option. This is an E36 with that engine.
