W126 central locking

Anyone know how it's supposed to work?

I got a pump, which has a 3-pin connector and a 2-pin connector. If I apply power to the 2 pins, by manually switching the 2 relays inside it I can make it blow or suck.

However. There's only a 3-pin plug supply in the boot to attach to it, so far as I can see. There's also a switch in the driver's door connected to the lock; this works and appears to connect 12V to either of a blue or yellow wire. There are blue, yellow and brown wires on the 3-pin in the boot, brown seems to be earth. It would appear that yellow = locked and blue = unlocked (or the other way around). Also inside the pump is a vacuum/pressure operated switch which makes contact once there's vacuum or pressure, and those wires connect to the circuit board which has some chips, 2 relays and a bunch of components.

My assumption is, starting from "open", by turning the key in the driver's door the switch is changed to "locked" and that supplies 12V on the other of the blue/yellow wires, which should cause the pump to operate in vacuum mode, until it reaches a preset vacuum (which, I guess, will be sufficient to have shifted all the actuators to "locked", at which point the pressure switch in the pump makes contact and that causes the pump to switch off. When opening, it should switch the other relay, the pump generates pressure which resets the actuators and then swtiches off. It looks like the door switch supplies voltage on the "open" wire constantly, so the pump switching must be in the pump.

[edit] Now wondering if it's the right pump. On googling, I see some pumps which only have the 3-pin plug socket. Maybe I should try to get one of those.

Only thing is, none of this happens if there's no supply to the pump and that's the bit I can't find, if it should be there... alternatively, the pump is actually supplied by that 3-pin plug - but if so, I can't see any reason why it doesn't work.

My sympathies and I thought the W116 vacuum system was bad enough. Have you tried the 126 forum on benzworld?

not yet but I have located on ebay what looks like the correct pump. The W123 ran off engine vacuum, which could also be a pain, and meant that if the vacuum had leaked out, it would only unlock the rest of the doors and the boot etc if you started the engine.

This system appears to solve that issue, provided the pump works... I might have been able to get the other pump to work by providing it with a supply, but that's hassle.

I'll report further if it works with the different pump - there seem to have been several kinds...

Well, got a different pump and now it works perfectly :)

for reference - my car has a single, circular 3-pin plug. The pump which works has a single socket. The pump that didn't work has an additional 2-pin connector for power (as far as I can tell) and people sell those as being for a W126 - so it may be that some W126s have such a pump. It looks like that second type of pump uses the 3-wire plug for signal and has its own power feed, the first kind is using the 3-wire for signal and power. It's probable that I could've made the wrong pump work by arranging a feed to it - but the boot doesn't have a convenient always-on feed.
