126 ers! Have any of you had any adventures removing the chrome strips that run along both sides of the roof on top of the front and back door frames?

I can see they unscrew on the underside of the door frame lip and I want to get them off to clean them up.

I'd appreciate any experiences taking them off. What is likely to spring out from underneath, be a bugger to put back, is there an order to do it in etc!?

Thanks!

Make sure you use a well fitting screw driver so as not to mangle the screw heads. Maybe spray the day before with WD40 as mine were fairly tight to remove.
Nothing springs or jumps out when you remove them.

Be careful not to damage them as they are only anodised aluminium. As are the door capping's and side panel trims. They tend to go 'milky' over time and are virtually impossible to polish up again.

cheers! I just wanna get in the nooks and clean. Good Shout on the WD40. Id have just got stuck straight in without thinking about WD40.

Let us know how you get on.

Don't you just love these old mercs? :D:thumb:

Further to the above , I agree WD40 is not penetrating oil .

For that I tend to use Plus Gas , or 'Shock and Unlock' , the latter available from Halfords .

PS - I never took my roof strips off , so sorry I can't hel;p there .
