Hello, does anyone know how to remove the rear door handle of a w126, does it involve removing the door trim, or is there a clever removable part on the hanlde which allows access to a screw a la VAG cars?

I live in hope.

Thank you in advance

I haven't removed a rear door handle from my W126 , but on some other models you take out a blanking grommet from the rear edge of the door and this reveals a grub screw for which you need an allen key .

I have to replace a broken door check on one of my rear doors , but don't think I'll get time this weekend

From memory, which is not good. :(

As Derek says. Rubber bung inside jamb in line with handle (maybe half hidden under door seal), part undo small allen key, slide square fixed part of handle aft in slot, front part wangles out, back bit follows last.

hope I'm right. :dk:

Sort of right but wrong.

Remove door trim.. there is one phillips head screw behind the rubber door seal and there is another that is inside the door... you will need to turn they lock with key to get it out without a fuss..

Its a lot easier to remove than modern MB's.

Totally wrong then. :wallbash: Doh. Here's me thinking it was similar to 124s.

Jay , it is a back door the OP is asking about - presumably the same but key bit won't apply ??

exactly... no key..

W126's were made simply just like W123's..

Thanks a lot guys, thats great!
