Looked like a SWB to me in any case.

Rear window is more rectangular on the LWB.

Nice car.

Are you not concerned about reliability?

The post 95 cars don't suffer from wiring loom issues , apparently . With the low mileage and service history I wouldn't expect much else to go wrong .

Anyway , I'll be getting on top of the servicing as soon as I get it .

Sure? My E320 is 08/1996 and you may recall the loom fell apart in 2014 @ 126k.

Not sure , but what I read an a W140 article ; I’ll inspect it carefully, just in case , thanks.

Well , my 190 is going away later today , and , once I sort insurance should get the 140 next weekend .

I’ll be looking to just get it home , to be checked over , then aim to put on road on 1st October .

I’m in no hurry as I have the SL to run around in .

W140s were the first cars to get the updated looms. The commoner cars got the revised looms slightly later :)
Good to know , and this one being a 99 should have it then

Yep yours will be fine. The V6 was well into production by then but the 140 kept the m104 as is til the end

Despite having the better wiring insulation the M104 ignition coils and associated wiring are still getting cooked= losing plasticiser -- in that little oven on top of the cylinder head so handle with care!;)

It was certainly firing on all 6 and running very smoothly when I tried it .

Congrats, sounds like a fantastic buy. Easily worth more than the £500 you're paying for it, incidentally, I recently bought a W203 C320 for £500 too :)

Shame that they rust like this though :(

My dad had a W140 a while back (in Green Black), still one of my all time favourite cars.

What , if any , issues did your dad have with his ?

Still trying to find if there are any common issues to watch out for on these , but there’s precious little info out there .

The car will either be kept for years , or sold on in the spring . Time will tell . The plan just now is to get it MOTD with minimum expense , and just run it for a bit to see where I stand , then decide whether to start spending money on it , or move it on .

We only had it for about 3 years, the only issue he had was the parking sensors packing up after the AA jump started it. He kicked up a huge fuss and they declined to play ball in getting them fixed or offering any form of compensation. Needless to say he's never used the AA since. He then subsequently traded the W140 in for a pre-registered W220 with Mercedes.

To be honest they are pretty much bullet proof - if everything still works now it should be all good :)
