A big hello and am I making a big mistake

Have you decided where to take it yet?

I have left messages for Welwyn Merx and a mobile merc specialist.

If you have suggestions/guidance in Herts please do say as I have not owned a Merc since 2005 and we lived elsewhere.

You also have Wayne Gates MB specialist in Harrow .

As mentioned previously, I use Simon Light in Ware and have no complaints at all.

Don't know if that's a bit too far across for you or not though based on the other areas you have mentioned.

oh - and the climate control temp dial does not seem to work. seems to rotate, but not go below 20 degrees.
Guess I should have checked that!
No need to beat yourself up on that.

Buyers don't check to that level of detail. It would only have been picked up by a £250 Professional inspection

Ah well - hopefully I can get some big mileage out of it.
Now, now...... remember that you said

"I now work remote 100% my mileage is very very low and my wife has a lovely Alfa Romeo Guilietta Cloverleaf as a run around (with 300bhp+)....."

Put too many miles on the GL and it'll eat into your commute savings in fuel and repair costs....

But hey, they're great cars, and if you don't spend your money on luxury cars, you'll only waste it on Wild Women, and Old Whisky.

Seems to work now! I ordered some of the little switches, I am handy with a soldering iron and can fix this one.

I do feel like a bit of a prat owning this thing, particularly driving it in town and with it's lack of environmental awareness! But as I said;

- 50 years old this year, at best I have got 30 years left and I will be working for the best part of 20 years of that!
13 years of very low cost motoring
- 100% remote job (all travel paid) - although I am only 2 weeks into the new job, I am enjoying it and busy. **I would have preferred to be 6-12 months in, but we are where we are. I am not 'made of money', but without being vulger I do have a high income (and high bills....!)
- We will probably do a workation over summer and roll around in Europe for 6 weeks with the kids
- Junior #1 will be learning to drive in 2 years which will mean my wife's lovely Alfa going and a small engined thing appearing.

Guess I am still justifying this beast to myself. For many years I have had trouble free, low cost motoring, so this is a big departure/change for me and I need to come to peace with it.

Congratulations. Great cars. I’m sure you will enjoy driving and owning it. If you find that you drive it alone a lot and are aware of the environmental impact as you mentioned in one of your posts, just get yourself an inexpensive city car - maybe even an EV. If you mirror your no claims bonus it will cost buttons to run, and maybe save overall.

Well, the whisky I already have an issue with!

I guess I am in for the long run as 2 years does seem a bit short....but plan for 2 years and outcome = 30 years I am fine with!

200 mile round trip today.

I will admit to being anxious about taking the new car on a big haul before a full inspection and service, but it behaved impeccably.

Like driving a sofa or floating to our destination. I think the kids enjoyed the heated rear seats too.

We average ~20-24mpg. The V8 is quiet and I must admit that i would like some ‘growl’, but not really sure it suits the vehicle or me.

Still a bit anxious on the purchase and finding it hard to justify, but minimum for us is 2 years ownership now.
