W164 ML280 MAF or ??

After another 40 miles, the car continued to drive well but @DSM10000 the CEL has now come on. The codes are P2009 (Intake manifold air control actuator) and P0101 (MAF/VAF - range/performance problem). Fuse 104 remains intact, but haven't tried reconnecting the EGR yet - got too dark! Will do that one tomorrow.

My thoughts are that i may have the swirl motor problem too, which can be "fixed" with a resistor. More annoyingly, P0101 means that the MAF sensor i just fitted hasn't worked.

Hope there is some other interpretation!!

I had similar issues with my OM642 and had conflicting advice (not from here) and codes.

I unplugged the EGR and, like you, had an improvement in response but, eventually it set a CEL.

The EGR valve on my car had seized but in addition I also had a fault with the exhaust back pressure sensor.

So what was the fix? A new EGR and cleaning out the little back pressure hole?
I tried cleaning it but it made no difference. A new (MB part) sensor and new EGR valve sorted it.

Yikes, more pennies going over the horizon. I got this because a RR was an open chequebook experience. This is going the same way!

Nowhere near the expense of a RR! We have a Supercharged 5 litre one 🤣

All modern engines and especially diesels will need sensors etc replacing as they age.

The back pressure sensor was circa £50 from memory.

You still haven’t done all the free basic stuff buddy , so don’t panic at this stage .

I think "panic" i about the right word. I always feel nervous with these "new" cars that the problem will prove to be something amazingly complex or expensive. With the classic stuff i spend more time on, you just have to listen to it and can quickly think through the small number of possible issues. I am trying to stay up-to-date, but it is quite a change of mindset!
