Have a 2006 ML320 that seems to have developed another issue. Almost a month ago I had the gearbox oil changed and that seemed to fix the uphill judder that it had. Since changing the oil (purely coincidence) the car has a bearing noise and it feels like a miss (it's not an engine miss) or struggle vibration particularly over 50 mph or so. It feels like a prop bearing and having scrabbled around underneath the rubber does look a bit perished.

Does anyone know how much give there is from a new one ? And has anyone changed one before ? Mercedes will only sell me an entire shaft at a cost of £920+vat which I'm not prepared to do !

Anyone who's had prop bearing failing before can you advise to the symptoms you had please ?

At standstill there's no issues so definitely drive train related.

Thanks in advance

Had prop bearing go on my ML270. It produced a dry whirring noise from under the car when on the move which was really annoying. Got a used propshaft off ebay for 40 quid and still fine a year later so give it a try there.

If your ML is an early one, they are prone to front diff bearings getting noisy. If you catch them in time, an oil change and magnetic sump plug should make sure things don't get significantly worse.

On mine, it was at 57-60 MPH, not audible either side of that.

Yeah definitely worth looking at. Cheers for the heads up

Hi. Yeah it's on the 'to do list'. Potentially/hopefully even tomorrow. This is making a bearing noise at any speed with the vibration/shake happening once I hit about 55mph and thereafter it varies. Bit strange really. It only becomes noticeable once on a dual carriageway
