Hi, i am looking for some advice, when i first start my car up there is a whining noise coming from the front of the car,it quietens down a little when warmer.
I have changed the ina Deflection Pulley Drive Belt Tensioner also the drive belt with a ContiTech Drive Belt, but alas this had made no difference, any idea what i should change or test next.

Thanks Paul

Hi PBF,
I find slowing down when the SWMBO asks stops most annoying whines
;-)

take off the aux belt and run it again if the noise dissapears its either alternator or belt idler pulley i suspect its the alternator try spraying some wd40 into the alternator

Yip, could be alternator or water pump, power steering pump, aircon and even the timing chain:crazy:

That's just the typical alternator whine that all Mercs of this age make on start up, which then goes once the engine comes off choke and has topped up the battery and the load on the alternator decreases.

Sounds like a noisy secondary air pump

Thanks for the replies.
I have taken the drive /fan belt off the car as suggested and started the car up
but this has made no difference to the whining noise,
any information would be appreciated.

Thanks Paul

The air pump is electronic, if you pm me your vin I can check if your car has one
