Hi
Yesterday I went out in the car, no problems, parked up went to shop came back and drove home. Went back to the car 10 min later and car does not turn over on the key.

Doors are locking and unlocking on the key fob as usual. Black electronic key, replaced the batteries as a precaution, I only have one key.

Car is a 1999 C220 CDi. - Any ideas guys? My wife is pregnant and due any time so we need both cars.

I believe the immobiliser is playing up, as there does not seem to be any current drain on the battery when key is turned to 3rd position.

Please help!!!!

Cheers

Barny

Put key in ignition, turn ignition on, press & hold fob button for long count of 10.
Now try starting it.

Barny1 did this work as my father-in-law is having the same issue on his 202? although his spare keyfob is working fine?

In addition, is there anyway the immobiliser can be disconnected permanently? Can this be done at home or is specialist equiptment required?

Thanks in advance

Hello. Does the ignition lock work when you put the key in? If so does the key turn? If so do the ignition lights come on. If its yes to all three questions the problem may not be with the ignition switch or immobiliser. I would be checking for a feed at the starter solonoid.

The answer to all these 3 questions is yes.

however things have moved on, apart from the car that is.

Latest update the car will not unlock with he remote, have to access the car through the drivers side door.

once in, I turned the key to position 2 the rear view mirror green light flashes quite quickly, previously it was almost one flash per second, the indicator lights don't flash either, same as before.

when I turn the ignition on the engine fires but doesn't turn over

All the things I have tried :

Changed remote and batteries in both.

put the key in the ignition to position 1 & 2 and pressed the button down for 10 secs or so. This did fix the problem for a while but the immobiliser issue is back

Also pointed keyfob at the rvm and pressed the button twice and then put the key in the ignition, but this didn't sync the key. :wallbash:

At present the car doesn't start and I have taken the rvm out to see if there are any issues.

basically, there is no point checking the solenoid. Any ideas? :(

Thanks in advance

update 21/05/10

disconnected the battery for a few hours the other night, after I reconnected, miraculously one of the remotes started working. Immobiliser disarmed and engine fired up.

got second remote to work now.

I'm glad its all working, but from my experience the system is still to tempremental and I would like to know how to disconnect the immobiliser.

Any advice much appreciated.

thanks

The battery trick works great...especially when you connect wires togetehr after disconnecting battery

Hi Everyone. I have a 1996 C200, I replaced the batteries in the key fob and now it wont lock or unlock the car. Any advice on how to synchronise the key fob to the car, please? Many Thanks
