Hi All,

I was wondering if you could help me once again.

I have a W202 with the M112.

Mechanic is telling me that the ECU is not providing data to his STAR diagnostic system.

He is also telling me that these ECU's cannot be repaired because they are split in 2 sides - one for control the other for diagnostic. The diagnostic side is locked from Mercedes and cant be repaired.

Everything is working for the moment but trying to get ahead of this before anything fails.

My questions are:
1. Do I have any options with regards to the ECU being fixed?
2. Will I need the diagnostic side of the ECU if I wanted to replace the central locking vaccum pump for one that is specific for my car (confirmed by mercedes)? I hear they have to be coded.

Thank you in advance.

1. Buy a second hand one and get it cloned. ECU doctor can help with that.
2. The coding is not done via the engine control unit (ECU) It is done via the PSE pump.

Hi BlackC55,

Thank you so very much for the prompt and detailed reply.

1. ECU - If the 2nd hand one I buy has the same problem (like a lot do), would a company like ECU doctor be able to fix it as well?
2. Central Locking Pump - Thank you. Does the technician plug directly into the PSE pump?

Again, thank you.

1. You will have to ask them. I am not sure. I have not heard of this issue before btw so not so sure its common.
2. They will use a Star to code it by plugging into the diag port.

Again, thank you so very much for your swift reply.

1. I will be sure to ask them. Also, I havent heard of this issue before myself and we have had the car for over 20 years.
2. Thank you. I will make my mechanic aware of this ahead of taking the car in.

You have no idea how much you have helped me keep a car we love on the road. I really appreciate it.
