I have just bought a 1999 W202 c200 from my father in law. It has just done 100k and has a full MB SH.

I have a very slight vibration through the steering at around 70 - 80, usually I would put this down to the wheel balance except the it is much worse on braking and the foot brale also vibrates. The discs are pretty worn.

The question is, can worn discs cause steering vibration, or can poor wheel balance cause brake vibration, or have i got two problems?

I would have thought your brake discs are warped.

Try getting it up to 70mph on a quiet road, and slamming the anchors on full, all the way down to 10mph - then back off, and repeat several times.

On a nice dry road that is.

It can help to scrub off any pad deposits on the discs.

Also try not to hold the car on the footbrake after prolonged periods of braking (say, coming off the sliproad of a motorway to a set of lights). Use the parking brake instead.

I will give that a go. Thanks.
