w202 xenons

I know the prefacelift has a diagnostic socket, I have a prefacelift C230k, but your early 202 prefacelift is an early one, sometimes referred to as a pre pre facelift, which i have always believed to have a different diagnostic port, similar to the 124.
STAR does calibrate it nothing else can, STAR reads of the settings from the suspension atitude sensors, makes sure there in spec, then you calibrate the hieght of the system which is then used as a datum for the system to maintain.

So in theory it could be fitted to the my pre-facelift or is it limited to the facelift car?

Seems like a load of cash to get brighter headlamps

Makes a big difference believe me and beats a change from the usual stupid beam patterned HID kits out there !

i paid around £400 to do the conversion, and it was worth every penny!

I paid a similar price for all my parts including the headlamp wash/wipe parts, though I did have to buy a loom and relay for the Wash/Wipe, and new suspension atitude linkages, also there was a charge for the programing which got included in a B service charge.
Whether it was worth it not sure, I did it because people said It could,nt be done.

I've thrown in the towel as it's more complicated than it's worth in my own opinion. Those of you who have put in your own offers to buy them, please go ahead and good luck. :thumb:

At the time I did mine for about £100 in total. Genuine headlamps from ebay plus audi TT controllers from Ebay Germany.

I didn't bother with the self levelling sensors etc and I simply converted the headlamps to work with my existing vacuum manual adjusters.....very simple.

So you really don't need to go down the expensive route if you don't want to and still achieve the same headlamp power :)

Cheaper... but still not legal ;)

Nope, I am in the process of adding rear 12V power sockets to my other W202 after seeing my brother's *cough* BMW *cough*

Will take pictures when finished.

Thought about that for my front dash as the last W202s had these in the cig ash bin area, I would never use it though.

Well, it's never failed an MOT since for the lack of self levelling, so it can't be that bad and we can always go back to that same old argument. There are plenty of cars running around with really awful HID kits, but mine is not one of them. :)

Strictly speaking it hasn't failed, but would as it hasnt got the self levelling system. So in essence, although it hasnt got it fitted, you're still in the same group as those 'really awful HID kits'.

Hi,
Fitting this self levelling system really seems to put people off it really isn't that hard and the parts can be sourced quite cheaply now, with the amount of mercs being broken up.
I found the hardest part of doing this fit is having to remove a front and rear road spring, to fit the suspension atitude sensors.

I think if you have all the available parts then its not so daunting, or a donor car available. It's when someone else has removed the parts and there are things missing which would then need to be sourced.

This is so true, but as the specific loom is NLA and is only from a breaker, which is probably better anyway as all the parts can be sourced at the same time I sourced mine from a breaker in Birmingham which took about 2-3 hours to remove from car.
Though I was at first quite daunted from the work required to do it, once I had removed the system I realised it really was,nt gonna be that difficult.
