Car won't start!

If you crack an injector fuel supply and crank the engine on a healthy unit, what should the fuel leakage pattern look like - in my case it pulses out in a coherant flow rather than spraying everywhere - should you expect the latter?

Don't do that. It is very dangerous with a HP pump. It can kill you.

When you crack the injectors the system thinks there is a leak and shuts off supply but there can be (initialy) 1300BAR of pressure coming out.

whats the problem?

Fully serviced the car @ 70k - including new F**M fuel filter (big mistake as running perfectly in 6 months since purchased - should have just changed the oil and filter and left it at that!)

Drove 200 mile trip - no problem then drove to shop, bought stuff, came back, started car , engine ran for ~ 30 secs and then just stopped (no coughing/spluttering etc. - just stopped) and despite vigorous cranking, would not / will not even try to start

Investigations to date:-

- on cranking engine, noted fuel line to lift pump mt!

- removed new filter - solid! cannot even blow through it (collapsed medium?)

- Lesson - only buy OEM service parts for your engine!

- replaced new filter with even newer OEM Bosch from ECP + new MB pipes to/from filter

- crank engine - fuel lines now full (and fuel leaks from injector if cracked) but will not start (therefore lift pump at least OK?)

- ordered MB service kits for HP pump and rail pressure regulator - will fit at the weekend and hope for the best

Any other suggestions welcome

Regards

Find someone with a star machine. The rail pressure when cranking can be checked. If the filter has broken up inside the high pressure pump may ba contaminated.

Excellent point - thanks - I'll do that

SOLVED

Stripped HP and lift pumps - both pristine (no debris, wear or damage thankfully) - rebuilt with MB seal-kits. Fitted new MB seals to rail pressure regulator. Started 2nd cranking sequence - test run - all OK
