Good evening,
Firstly I have a 2004(54) W203 C220 Cdi.
Sometimes my car won't start, the starter completely misses the teeth on the flexplate (flywheel). I have to manually turn the engine at the crank to start the car. It's either broken around the middle (can't see through the inspection hole, warped/bent or the teeth are too badly worn. I do have a rattling/knocking sound coming from that area that increases in volume and speed with RPM so its probably cracked or warped, I have a replacement but not sure how big of a job it will be to replace it yet..
I'm wondering if anyone out there knows whether the flexplate can be changed without removing the gearbox completely? Can it be moved backwards to give enough access to the flexplate?
Thanks for the help.
James
